When Should a Lock Be Replaced?
Lock replacement may be appropriate when:
Hardware is physically damaged
The cylinder is badly worn
The lock no longer secures properly
Parts are missing or broken
Existing hardware is incompatible with the door
The property owner wants different lock hardware
Repair is no longer practical
Not every lost key requires a complete lock change. If the existing lock is compatible and in good condition, rekeying may accomplish the security goal more efficiently.
